Regarded as the most rare of all Japanese Sunsoft releases, Flash Back is also one of the most obscure closely followed by Lemmings due to the fact that Flash Back and Lemmings are the only foreign titles to be released by Sunsoft in Japan. As you may know, Sunsoft decided not to go with the standard sized Mega Drive cases and went with their own Famicom style cases. Result, cute little boxes just about big enough to fit in a Mega Drive cartridge. So what about the game? Well, Flash Back is the follow up to the very nice Another World or Out of this World as it was known in some parts. Unlike Another World though, Flash back looks far more lush and pleasing to the eye while keeping that beautiful fluid polygon generated animation. Not only has the Flash Back improved upon the original game's looks but also upon the cinematic sequences. You'd be forgiven thinking that this was running on a Saturn rather than a Mega Drive. Flash Back stunning to say the least. Gameplay is also spot on with solid tight controls that feel so natural once you have the timing down. The challenge is well set too with no real difficulty peaks. Everything just seems to flow as it should. However I'm sure a few of the puzzles will annoy one or two of you. Still, they are a minor factor in what is one of the best action platform games to hit the Mega Drive. |
